ExamNepal
Online examinations. Learning tools. Assessment insights.
An online examination and learning platform supporting mock tests, assessments, analytics, and user management for students, institutes, and corporate organizations on a single shared platform.
System Architecture
Next.js storefront with SSR/SSG/ISR, Tailwind CSS, and Shadcn/UI components.
REST services with JWT authentication and middleware-based error handling.
PostgreSQL — schema designed for this domain with role-protected access.
JWT-based authentication with role-based access control across student, admin, and operational surfaces.
The Challenge
Institutes and corporate organizations were running mock tests, assessments, and analytics on fragmented tools with no shared platform for exam delivery, question banks, or user management.
The Process
- Step 01
Separate student and administration workflows
A dedicated student-facing experience for taking exams was paired with a companion admin dashboard for managing users, exams, and question banks — so operational staff and learners never share an interface.
- Step 02
Design the API and schema first
Exams, question banks, roles, and results were modeled in PostgreSQL, exposed through Java/Spring Boot REST services with JWT-based authentication for consistent, secure access across both apps.
- Step 03
Build a shared component system
Reusable React/Next.js/TypeScript components with Tailwind CSS and Shadcn/UI kept the two applications visually and behaviorally consistent while speeding up feature delivery.
- Step 04
Surface performance and outcomes through analytics
Assessment analytics were built into the platform so institutes and corporate clients can track candidate performance instead of exporting data elsewhere.
The Outcome
Powers exam delivery and analytics for multiple institutes and corporate clients on a single shared platform, with the student platform and admin dashboard in production.
Highlights
- Delivery
- Student platform + companion admin dashboard in production
- Clients
- Multiple institutes and corporate organizations
- Backend
- Java/Spring Boot REST APIs with PostgreSQL
Reflection
Splitting student and admin experiences early — while keeping them on one backend contract — removed the workflow conflicts that usually appear when a platform tries to serve both at once.
